You would just need to detail visual appearance of the material and that it was not possible to analyse this sample because the type of material, within the MMO sample results template. I for additional clarity I would also recommend that you submit an explanatory note and the photo along with the other results. I realise that we aren’t supposed to go directly to yourselves for advice, but as both staff from MMO are out of the office and no other staff at MMO have been involved with the case, we had no other option (as we are looking to get this resolved this week). We are trying to confirm whether Cefas would accept a marine licence application with 3 of the 4 requested samples from Area A of the Northern Gateway Container Terminal dredge footprint (for information all other samples requested by Cefas in Area B-G have been recovered and are being analysed). The fourth sample from Area A (sample A3) was recovered as part of the sampling campaign, but as advised by the laboratory and shown on the attached, the material is not suitable for chemical analysis given its stony nature. Given the nature of the material, we are assuming that MMO / Cefas will agree that the potential for contamination in such material is low, and therefore, we are requesting confirmation that Cefas would accept a marine licence application supported by chemical data from 3 samples from Area A rather than the originally requested 4? Please can you confirm this will be acceptable? The lab has advised that one of the samples from Area A (sample A3) is unsuitable for analysis as the sample consists of large stones (see attached image). We will assume that we have registered your requirements correctly unless you contact us. Please note samples MAR00356.003 – A3 is Not Amenable for testing as the sample consists of large stones and we are therefore unable to proceed with any of the testing. I have attached a photograph of the tub sample for reference and I can confirm that the jar contained similar size stones.
